Introduction

This website is created to show the EADWW (Engaging Across Difference in the Wider World) “text”s from us students in RHET102 course, spring 2020.

Who are we?

We are students from ZJU-UIUC institute, which belongs to the international campus of ZJU located in Haining, China. The ZJU-UIUC institute focuses on majors of engineering and we are all engineering students.

What are we doing?

The EADWW project requires us to develop a multi-modal “text” to adapt our arguments in the EADA project for general audience. In the EADA project, we respond to an exigent issue, problem, or debate that we care about. We synthesize different reliable sources to support our own claim regarding to a specific issue or phenomenon.

Welcome From Our Teacher

I have been privileged to teach English academic writing to 63 ZJUI first year students for the Spring 2020 semester.  When I asked, six of my students volunteered to create this website for my students to showcase one of their projects.  Throughout the semester my students picked an exigent topic that they cared about.  They researched that topic and wrote three papers, including an argument paper for an academic audience.  I then asked them to “translate” and reshape (part of) their argument into a multimodal / multimedia “text” for a wider-world audience.  Explore their texts by going to the Research Group pages.  One of our main goals this semester was to learn to better engage across difference in ways that are peaceful, respectful, genuine, and generous.  I hope you enjoy visiting our site!

Peace, John MacLean

Welcome to Our Website!

This website is edited by the Website Team of the RHET 102 course. We have six members in the website team. Jiang Yuxuan is the leader of this team. We also have Si Zhenzuo, Lai Xiaoxuan, Li Junyan and Bai Hao each responsible for a part of the website. This homepage is set up and written by Li Kunle. For more information about us, you can go to the “Our Technical Team” page.

There are 12 research groups’ wonderful “text”s in this website. Different research groups focus on different topics and students show their unique comprehension on their topics. Feel free to go around the website.

Peace and health, Website Team

Research Groups

The following research groups are divided based on topics that the students choose. Students with similar topics will be in the same group. We have 12 research groups in total.
