Get Closer to Rural Children, Volunteers can do Better

RG C – Addressing inequity in Chinese educationUncategorized

I choose to design a T-shirt as my multimodal text, and I consider doing it because my audience and my topic. My target audiences will be college students, organizers, and even rural children. College students are warm-hearted and fashion, they will not like something embarrasses them. Since my topic is about the volunteer projects in rural area, which means we will not see rural children in daily life so we may not care about them.

If the organizations send a T-shirt to volunteers, and those volunteers will remember they have been to rural area help those children even they leave there when they see the T-shirt. Meanwhile, when they wear the T-shirt on the street, people who see it will have a sense that there are many rural children who are receiving low quality education, then they may have the pulse to give them a hand. What is more, when rural children see these T-shirts, they will feel those volunteers are sincere to make their lives better.

So, my design will care about these factors. First, color. I do not want the T-shirt to be too shiny or too bright color. Because volunteers come to rural area to help but not make a show, so I think white is an appropriate color. Second, college students are adolescences, which means they may be shy, and they feel embarrassed if the picture on T-shirt is a child in rags. So, I design the picture on the front, which is a child with a volunteer, and they talk under the moon. This shows volunteer projects are trying to get into the heart of the children but not just teach the knowledge on textbook. Also, this picture shows respect to rural children since it put them on an equal stage as friends. On the back, I want to put a sentence “ 支教,让我们走进你心里 “ this fits the main idea of my claim and tells what volunteers will do it volunteer projects. So, in this T-shirt, I combine words, picture together, and their function are attracting others and tell people what we advocate.

In China, there are many new college volunteers every year, so this T-shirt can be widely spread, but it may not be able to leave deep impression for those who didn’t attend volunteer projects or have little concern about rural education.
