Education reflects the history of a nation and also indicates the future.

Ethnic and geographical differences and diverse historical development create many differences in education systems. Therefore, the talents cultivated under each education system that have different characteristics.

Based on these vivid differences, I want to engage with educators and students worldwide, who were or are in the face of the differences in education. On account of China and the United States which are two huge and representative systems, I use the form of comparative comics to show the differences. Hence people can understand the internal differences and then think about how to interact with them, leading to the promotion of their own education by understanding and interaction.

The Comparative Comic about the Differences.

Initially, Chinese and American education have different learning purposes. Chinese education, mostly with a strong purpose to educate children, such as getting good grades. While American education mostly encourages children to develop their own interests and multiple hobbies.

Secondly, China and the United States have different educational contents. Chinese education is good at theoretical teaching according to the textbook, which enables students to have a good grasp of textbook knowledge and skillfully use it. Meanwhile, the focus of American education is not only knowledge itself, but also the ability to cultivate lifelong benefits, such as aspiration, teamwork, communication and management.

Thirdly, teachers play different roles in Chinese and American education. In the Chinese education, most teachers play the role of instructing. They explain knowledge clearly and orderly, but they do not interact with students much. In American education, teachers often play the role of guide, starting from the questions raised by students, to stimulate their independent thinking ability.

Consequently, many differences are bound to lead to different learning outcomes. Chinese students have a good command and use of book knowledge, and often get good grades in the examination. American students learn more about learning ability than knowledge itself, which is the source of their inspiration and courage to try when facing problems.

As a result, talents cultivated by different education systems obtain distinct characteristics and each one has its own merits.  Just as the second and third pictures shown, when faced with these differences, instead of waging a tit-for-tat struggle against, the interaction and communication through culture provide them chances to learn from each other’s strengths and improve themselves.

Above all, this is the main content of my comics. Certainly, it cannot show the differences between China and America education and their interaction thoroughly, but it is easy to be understood by the public. If you desire to gain a more detailed understanding, it is not enough to rely on the comic alone. Since the differences and interaction between these two large representative education systems are complex and profound.
