Author’s Thinking Rhetorically Note:

Generally speaking, I want to engage with all the people who read on the screen in daily life. More specifically, the group of people who are fans of electronic devices is my target group. I know that reading on the screen is part of their lives, and they have rich experience in e-reading. We may all be interested in the topic of digital reading. The difference between us is that I am concerned about the influence of reading media on reading comprehension and have read a lot of relevant experiments and studies. This also creates the exigency that would attract the audience, because they may have been involved in digital reading all the time but rarely think about its influence on the comprehension.

In the whole text I will choose a scientific and rigorous language style. Some phenomena and statistics that can prove the popularity of digital reading will be applied to the article. I guess I don’t need much language of introduction to connect with the readers because the topic I chose is closely related to daily life, but some road signs or metacommentaries are needed.

As I mentioned in the EADA project, I am not making a well-organized and evidence-based suggestion of the best reading media. I want to use my text to make people know more about or pay more attention to the influence of reading media on reading comprehension. If my text reached further, I wish it could give the e-book engineers some nice ideas or make the educators who vigorously promote digital reading devices reflect on their plans.

I will create a Prezi which is like a dynamic PowerPoint that can interact with the readers, but I will upload it as a video. My general plan is to make a brief evidence-based argument (Logos). I will use the strategy ‘hierarchy’ mentioned in the skillshare class to organize my main points by how strong they are.

I think my text is appropriate for most public places. Maybe schools are the most appropriate places. Cafes and subway stations are also good choices. Maybe I will publish my text on the huge public displays or electronic billboards. Compared with other advertisements, my text is more in-depth and less commercial. Maybe it’s ‘contrast’ to some degree.

The text is likely to make the audiences think more about the issue I talk about, but it may be difficult to attract the audiences due to lack of entertainment. Those who rarely use electronic devices may not be my target audiences. My wish is to give the audiences a new perspective and yield the affordance of future research.
