The Connection between Security and Liberty

The essay was written for the academic readers, and it will not be attractive to the non-academic readers. I want to talk with the ordinary people in the society, for the security and liberty are closely related to every ordinary person, but not every person could realize that their personal effort will do give rise to the whole society. I use English to show my opinions for the coronavirus are sweeping the United States and making clarify the relationship between liberty and security could help control the transmission of the pandemic. 

I choose the comic forms to express my main idea and communicate with my audience. This comic is created as three pictures. Using the pictures as the fundamental of the text could make the truth more vividly and interesting and public much easier to understand.

According to this picture, you could find I used the metaphor to express the connection. The freedom is compared to kited while security is the string that tethered the kite. If you want to fly a kite, the kite and string are interdependent and indispensable. If the string is lost, kite will be beyond your control, if the kite is broken, the string lost its meaning. The connecting between freedom and security is the same.

I would like to post this picture in the publicity to control the coronavirus. The best method to control the pandemic is the quarantine which could violate some people’s liberty. However, extreme individualism would be harmful to the whole society, so some aspects of individual freedom must be compromised to ensure group safety.

However, there are also some limitations. The harm of individualism couldn’t be fully expressed and need the audience to understand by themselves. Also, how to strike a balance in practice also requires the government and the public to make their own decisions, for each person and each country has different realities that require special analysis. Even if there exists some limitations, I still hope that everyone could balance the liberty and security to achieve the largest profit.
